Jesus Died, But…

Jesus died, but that is not the end of the story.

Jesus is God. Imagine an immortal Almighty, all powerful God walking these dusty streets when He should only be walking the streets of gold. God had a human experience. He humbled Himself for our sake.

In the old days (and when I say old days here I mean the Abraham days) they had high priests. These high priests where the only ones that went in the presence of God on behalf of the people for the forgiveness of sins. They did this through offering sacrifices. That means you cannot just go in the presence of God like that. Now, Jesus who is our high priest made things so easy for us. It is only because of Him that we can go directly to the Father.

Jesus being the only Son of God came and died for our sins. We are all sinners and it is that sin that separates us from God the Father. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Our deeds cannot do it. Our resources or connections cannot do it. It is Him alone. He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He is the perfect sacrifice. The blood He shed on the cross holds so much power, more than we could ever fathom (Romans 5:9-11). One man bled for the forgiveness of all our sins, for the whole world. He did this while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). When we were blind, in darkness. Some are still in darkness but He remains the good news: He is the light of the world.

What would you do if someone died for you? Wouldn’t you be compelled to serve them? To follow them or perhaps the extreme to give and live your whole life to honour them. Now of course you may be wondering how one can serve, follow and give their life to a dead person but the good news is that Jesus is alive. Yes, and that is the significance of this story. He didn’t simply die but He rose after three days (1 Corinthians 15:4). And because of this, the power of death has been defeated. This then means if you believe in Him and you die believing in Him, you will rise too (Romans 6:8-10). You can have eternal life all because of what Jesus did. Your body dies but your Spirit lives on forever. And in case you do not know, you are a Spirit in a body.

Generations will come and generations will go and this story will continue to be shared. It is the Gospel. It is hope for the hopeless. It is life changing, it is eternity altering. This is only for those that believe and confess the name of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-10). It is one thing to know and believe this story but it is another to believe in Him. To live life according to His standards, and to give Him Lordship over your life. If you haven’t, perhaps it’s time to give Jesus a chance with your life. There’s no losing with Him. And if you have been there, done that and somehow life threw you a curve ball, try again. Jesus did say that in this world we will have trouble but the good news is that he has overcome the world! (John 16:33)

And you guessed it, more good news He will never leave you nor forsake you. He has left the Holy Spirit to dwell in those that believe in Him (John 14:16-18). The triune God is unlimited. It is only us that limit Him with our unbelief. Take a step of Faith and give your life to the King of Kings. He will give you eternal life in exchange.
